Teufelsberg and Drachenberg

Teufelsberg and Drachenberg

If you’re short for time but in need of a dose of greenery not far from the city I’ve got just the walk for you! Head out to Grunewald S for a walk into the beautiful Grunewald woods and treat yourself to fresh and and lovely views over Berlin from the Teufelsberg! An added bonus on this walk is that you can visit the Cold War Teufelsberg listening station which was deserted by Americans and get your history hat on and find out cool spy stuff. WOW!

We set out on this walk on a frosty but sunny Saturday noon and were at the top of Teufelsberg in 45 minutes: that’s a lot of bang for your uphill walk! Sadly the main Teufelsberg tower was closed so we skipped the listening station and walked around its perimeter. From about half way around the outside of the fence you can continue straight towards Drachenberg, a flat plateau hill with lovely views of Teufelsberg – and lots of people flying kites! Keruuuute or what!

At 2 hours and with an 80 metre ascent this is a lovely route for a spontaneous half day walk. I’d also recommend stopping in one of the restaurants at Grunewald S for a much deserved tea*.
